The wine bottle designed for sharing

“Wine in a glass of its own” reads the tag line. Stacked Wines, a California-based company, have launched the latest in innovative wine packaging with their stacked bottle of four stemless wine glasses which can be broken up and shared. With the standard 750ml volume, the glasses can be snapped and consumed in 187ml portions.

Sounds pretty cool, but where’s the benefit? Well, it looks good for a start, it would certainly be a talking point. But the main advantage is in its practicality. Stacked market it as being the ideal solution for a picnic, hike, festival, camping or boat trip. Founders Matt Zimmer, Doug Allan and Jodi Wynn have gone for a lightweight and shatter proof packaging option in Vinoware, which supposedly looks and feels like the real thing. I’ve posted on PET plastic packaging for wine before, here, although Vinoware may use a slightly different plastic.

So how’s the wine? I can’t answer that because I haven’t tried it. The two signature wines are a Merlot and a Chardonnay, with a Pinot Grigio and a Cabernet Sauvignon to follow. Resident wine guy Doug Allan is a qualified sommelier with a diploma in Wine & Spirits. The wine retails for $14.99 in the U.S., so it is relatively inexpensive by their standards, although it should still deliver good quality. Otherwise, they’ll hear all about it!
