Woodstock ‘The Stocks’ Shiraz 2013

50.00

Description

Deep, dark indigo in colour with mouth watering complex aromas of coffee, coconut, vanilla and fruit mince. The palate has rich layers of chocolate and mint with spice and warm fruit sweetness, enhanced with soft oak. Only the best barrels are chosen for this flagship red wine from Woodstock, with heavenly results

Named after a set of medieval wooden leg stocks, which stand in the town of Woodstock in Oxfordshire, England, “The Stocks” Shiraz is Woodstock’s flagship wine. This single vineyard Shiraz is made from 31 rows of low-yielding vines, planted circa 1900 on a sandy north slope of Woodstock Estate. The single vineyard character is evident each year as a distinctive terroir which may vary slightly in expression annually, but grows in character with bottle age.

An excellent pairing with slow cooked ox tail

Woodstock is located in South Australia's McLaren Vale, arguably the country's top wine region for big, booming reds.

Modern founder Doug Collett caught the wine bug while flying Spitfires over Europe for the Royal Australian Air Force during World War 2, admiring the vineyards below as he went and savouring the local wines while on leave - as you do!

Son Scott Collett is the current patriarch with one of Australia's winemaking superstars Ben Glaetzer (Robert Parker's a BIG fan!) overseeing production and blending.

So concentrated and dark and deep that it almost growls at you...The alcohol is incredibly high (drinker be warned!) but it is perfectly matched by the depth, clarity of acidity, and the structure of the wine.
