SaleFrom ungrafted Mendoza-clone Chardonnay vines planted in the early 1980s in clay and limestone rich soils, this fine white from New Zealand is unapologetically Burgundian in style.
Fermentation is carried out using wild yeasts, the unfined juice and full solids going into used French oak barriques to mature for a few months, before filtering and further maturation prior to bottling.
A supremely elegant wine, structured and complex, showing aromas of stone fruit, toasted almonds, fresh fig and vanilla, with a enticing hint of struck matches. The palate is concentrated and beautifully textured with perfectly pitched acidity, creamy orchard fruits on a taut citrus backbone.
Serve lightly chilled with roasted quail and buttery mash. Will reward cellaring for 6-8 years from vintage.
