The Trilogie Rouge blend is a roughly even split of Syrah, Alicante Bouschet (from vines planted in 1939) and Cabernet Franc. Short skin contact is carried out for the Alicante Bouschet to extract fruit and soft tannins, with a longer maceration occurring for the Syrah and Cabernet. After gentle extraction by rack and return only, the wine is matured in the ancient cellars of Château Viranel, in stainless steel and concrete tanks.
A vibrant ruby red, the wine has persistant red fruit notes on approach and at the first taste the fresh fruitiness is replaced by more spicy licorice notes and stewed prunes. Dark plum, violet nuances are evident, along with just the lightest hint of cinnamon spiced fruitcake on the crisp and fine finish.
Deep, fruity and satisfying, this wine is a perfect foil for rib steak and classic bérnaise with duck fat potatoes.
