Description
From a single organic vineyard in Rioja Oriental comes this robust and full-bodied Graciano, part of the Vine Roots series from Bodegas Corral winemaker, Carlos Rubio Villanúa.
Harvest is by hand in 10kg boxes with careful sorting and removal of stems prior to gentle pressing. Fermentation is in large American oak barrels under controlled temperature, followed by 12 months maturation in smaller new American oak barriques.
Deep red in colour and very full bodied, this has a brilliant nose of dark berries, dried black fruits and wood spice, hints of vanilla, cigar box, pencil shavings and mint overlaying cassis, prune and morello cherry. There’s eating and drinking in this, a huge structure of chunky tannins and juicy acidity support oodles of sweet black fruit, blackcurrant and mulberry over savoury, gamey flavours, and wonderful afters of clove, liquorice and mint chocolate.
Not for the faint-hearted but you only live once, serve up with your favourite cut of beef with a black pepper sauce.

Bodegas Corral was established in 1898 and remains in the Corral family hands to this day. The Don Jacobo brand that adorns most of winery's labels is named after the pilgrimage Way of St. James, or Camino de Santiago, with Corral the only winery in Rioja to sit right on the world heritage route.
Corral were early adopters to organic growing and, despite their modest size compared to some of the huge commercial producers in the region, have one of the largest holdings of organic vineyards in Rioja. By 2023 the entire vineyard holdings will be certified organic and all wines are already vegan certified. The philosophy is to sacrifice volume for quality and environmental harmony, to future proof the winery and vineyards, and make sure that the next generation of the family inherit something very special.
Vineyard plantings include indigenous varietals Tempranillo, Garnacha, Mazuelo and Viura, with increasing focus on rarer varietals such as Tempranillo Blanco, Graciano, Maturana Tinta and Blanco, and Garnacha Blanca.
