Viña von Siebenthal ‘Riomistico’ Viognier 2017

A magnificent showcase for this wonderful grape from France’s Rhône valley, with distinct nods to Condrieu.

The only white wine produced in the von Siebenthal vineyards, this powerful Viognier is matured for 12 months in new French oak barriques and total production is limited to just a few hundred cases.

Rich and slightly honeyed in appearance, there’s viscosity to the body evident from the thick tears that stream down the glass. The nose is equally enticing, heady and unctuous aromas of apricot, pineapple, orange peel and acacia flowers. The wine itself is full-bodied and slightly oily, voluptuous, rich and layered with sweet tropical and stone fruits, delicate floral and spice notes, honey and vanilla, and a length that just goes on and on.

Serve up with white meats or game, but at its transcendent best with slow-roasted pork shoulder or goose.
