Viña von Siebenthal ‘Carabantes’ Syrah 2019

Description

Named in honour of Francisco de Carabantes, a Dominican friar credited with bringing the first grapevines to Chile in the mid-16th century, Carabantes Syrah (with around 10% Cabernet Sauvignon) is organically farmed and aged in French oak for 18 months prior to bottling.

Characterised by intense aromas of violet, rosemary and blueberries, the viscous palate boasts sweet blackcurrant and plum, with notes of pencil shavings, cedar, black tea and chocolate.

Elegantly structured with fine tannins, this can be laid down for 10 to 12 years from vintage.

Mauro von Siebenthal was a Swiss lawyer until, in 1998, he had an epiphany while visiting friends in Chile's Aconcagua Valley. Falling in love with the region and spotting the opportunity to buy a small bodega, Mauro set about establishing his first vineyard, the 30 acre Parcela #7, with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc.

By 2009, Mauro had given up life as a lawyer, fully relocated to Chile, and established Viña von Siebenthal with the building of a new state of the art winery. The boutique estate specialises in small production Bordeaux red blends, planting and blending according to the unique soil types within the four main vineyards currently owned.
