Vignedileo Tre Castelli Il Rosso 2022



Sangiovese and Montepuliciano grapes are harvested at night, gently pressed and cool fermented in stainless steel tanks, with just a few months to round out before bottling. The final blend is a 50/50 split of the two, Italy’s most internationally renowned red grapes.

Light to medium bodied and ruby-violet in colour, ripe fruit aromas leap from the glass, notes of cherries, plums and raspberries, with floral hints, violets and peonies. Savoury fruity with the right amount of tannic structure, those sweet red fruits are beautifully framed by crisp acidity and dry, savoury tannins.

Best enjoyed young, and even slightly chilled, try this with Peking duck.

We love going to places where a grape that's unknown or overlooked elsewhere in the world is treated with a reverence and adulation more akin to international celebrity. So it is with Verdicchio in Staffolo, the home of Vignedileo in Italy's Marche wine region. They've been growing Verdicchio here since Roman times, making the century the Cimarelli and Palpacelli families have been at it seem like they're upstarts.

Brothers Emanuele and Gianfilippo are the new generation of Palpacellis, taking over from their father Leonardo who passed away prematurely in 1999. Vignedileo literally translates as 'Leo's winery'.

As well as the prized white Verdicchio dei Castelli, the family also produces red wines from Montepulciano, Sangiovese and Merlot grapes. Sustainability is at the heart of everything they do, from organic fertilisation and technical innovations to reduce CO2 emissions in the vineyard, to careful water management and solar powering the winery.
