Vignedileo Tre Castelli Il Bianco 2022



Tre Castelli Bianco is made up of 80% Verdicchio with Malvasia and Trebbiano making up the other 20%.

The grapes come from clay-rich soils, typical of these family vineyards in Staffolo, in Italy’s Marche region, which give a beautiful dry texture and minerality. Grapes are harvested at night, gently pressed and cool fermented in stainless steel tanks, and bottled young after just a few months.

Straw-like in colour with lively aromas of white and citrus fruits, the palate is crisp, fresh and fruity, flavours of pear and melon with a hint of pineapple, finishing dry with a cleansing twist of lime on the finish.

Pairs superbly with shellfish, creamy cheeses like mozzarella, or antipasti.

We love going to places where a grape that's unknown or overlooked elsewhere in the world is treated with a reverence and adulation more akin to international celebrity. So it is with Verdicchio in Staffolo, the home of Vignedileo in Italy's Marche wine region. They've been growing Verdicchio here since Roman times, making the century the Cimarelli and Palpacelli families have been at it seem like they're upstarts.

Brothers Emanuele and Gianfilippo are the new generation of Palpacellis, taking over from their father Leonardo who passed away prematurely in 1999. Vignedileo literally translates as 'Leo's winery'.

As well as the prized white Verdicchio dei Castelli, the family also produces red wines from Montepulciano, Sangiovese and Merlot grapes. Sustainability is at the heart of everything they do, from organic fertilisation and technical innovations to reduce CO2 emissions in the vineyard, to careful water management and solar powering the winery.
