Description

Now this is properly hand-crafted: three different grape varieties carefully selected after hand-harvesting from eight separate vineyards within the Fernandez Gomez family holdings situated around the town of Labastida, Rioja Alavesa.

Winemaker Carlos Fernandez Gomez ferments the selected grapes in stainless steel then matures in a mix of French and American oak barrels for 4 months, with a daily botonage on half of them. The result is a rich, complex white with aromas of vanilla, white flowers, honey and stone fruit, apricot, pineapple and smoky, nutty characters coming through on the decadent and lengthy palate.

Great with most seafood dishes and just amazing with traditional roast chicken (we’ve done it).

Producer: Tierra y Vino

With ancestors from Labastida and San Vicente and the proud emblem of their father Fidel as their muse, the wines of family collective Tierra y Vino are grown in thirty hectares facing the slopes of the Toloño mountain. The range of varieties grown on the vineyards, some of which are a hundred-years-old, are Tempranillo, red and white garnacha, viura, graciano and malvasia, which is grown in the oldest vineyards. Underneath the main winery based in the old Jewish neighbourhood in Labastida, there is a curious network of four different caves joined together, dating from 1400-1500 where the wines rest peacefully in 500 litre oak casks with the temperature and humidity constantly maintained the whole year round.
