This is magnificent. Cherry-red, the nose is an inviting blend of vanillin oak notes supported by subtle red fruit and hints of leather. Medium weight but full of fl avour and texture, there’s a beautifully balanced spread of spice and grip across the palate, leading into a classically dry, lingering finish. Try with pasta, osso bucco or a platter of dried meats and cured cheeses, you won’t believe how good life can taste.
Sangiovese on Kangaroo Island? Believe it or not, the schist soils on the Islander Estate vineyards are similar to those in the Chianti Classico region of Tuscany, the original home of this noble Italian grape. Sangiovese grows best when planted in areas with good drainage and cooler temperatures, which help to retain its famous tannic grip and acidity. So Kangaroo Island, located off mainland Australia’s south coast, is perfect for it!
