Strapping, limited edition, full-bodied Syrah reminiscent of an Aussie Shiraz, with 12 months ageing in French oak barrels. The vineyards of Bodegas Sommos are located in Somontano, northern Spain, just south of the Pyrenees in hilly, undulating terrain with a continential climate and large diurnal shifts in temperature between night and day.
Deep ruby red in colour with voilet-tinged tears down the glass, this shouts Shiraz from the off, heady aromas of crème de cassis, black cherry and mulberry with wafts of menthol and pencil shavings. The palate is full-bodied and rich, concentrated sweet blackcurrant and damson on the open, with notes of fresh raspberry and mint providing lift, and a long finish showing dark chocolate, coffee, allspice and black pepper.
You can drink this all on its own, it’s a whopper, but if food pairing try with roast lamb or aged blue cheeses.
