Cracking, limited edition big cab from northern Spain, the vineyards of Bodegas Sommos located just south of the Pyrenees in hilly, undulating terrain with a continential climate and large diurnal shifts in temperature between night and day. This is the best Cabernet fruit (the rest going into blends), with 12 months ageing in French oak barrels.
Intense ruby red in colour with fine viscous tears, big black fruit notes leap from the glass, blackcurrant and blackberry intermingling with mint, violets and cigar box. The juice is rich and concentrated, sweet cassis, ripe plum and touch of rhubarb, softening into a chocolately mid-palate with hints of coffee and toasted nuts, and an extended finish that goes on and on in the mouth.
This is eating and drinking on its own but if food pairing go with roast beef, hearty casseroles or dark chocolate.
