Savian Organic Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso 2022

Description

Summery Italian red from organic vineyards in Lison Pramaggiore, in the Veneto.

From a precious strain of low-yielding vines planted in the 1970s, this is relatively light in colour and body, the ruby-garnet reflections give an indication of a young wine, unoaked. This is confirmed on the nose with a blast of summer fruits and floral influences, violet and iris. What we love about Refosco is the fine balance of acidity and gripping tannins, providing structure to its natural fruitiness, sweet ripe plum, morello cherry, blueberry and blackberry all to the fore but kept fresh and clean by the wine’s frame. There’s a minerality to this as well which provides fluidity and softness, rounding out the tannins and providing a basis of extra complexity on the finish, subtle earthy and floral characters revealing themselves.

Serve lightly chilled with dried meats and hard cheeses.
