Savian Organic Pinot Grigio 2022

15.75

Description

Organic Pinot Grigio with a low presence of sulphites produced from the Savian family vineyards.

This a beautifully weighted and balanced Pinot Grigio, with floral notes on the nose accompanying ripe pear and hints of almond. Supple and rounded on the palate, there’s a lovely balance of acidity and pleasant mineral qualities, soft and harmonious but with good flavour concentration and a nice length where some extra complexity comes through.

Drink on its own or with light salad, grilled fish and chicken dishes.

Savian is a third generation family winery founded by Marco Savian in 1925, after being granted a small holding of four hectares for his service in the First World War. Marco built a house and tended the tough, arid and clayey soils by hand, planting vineyards in a previously desolate land, once known as Bandita after the bandits and brigands that roamed the nearby oak forests.

The modern winery and extended 42 hectare estate is situated between two rivers where the provinces of Venice, Pordenone and Treviso meet, taking in the Lison Pramaggiore and Venice DOCs. Pinot Grigio, Lison Classico and Chardonnay do well here, along with Merlot, Refosco and Cabernet Franc. Ahead of current trends, the Savian family converted all vineyards to organic farming in 1993, and in 2007 installed a solar farm to produce their own sustainable energy to help power the winery.
