Dried black fruits dominate the nose – dates, prunes, raisins – with savoury elements of black olive, espresso and orange peel, and oriential spices, cloves, juniper and star anise coming through on the pallet. Just wonderful.
Selected from the very best native Douro grapes of the 2004 vintage, this vintage-designated wine was aged for three years in large oak barrels before going into bottle. This is now at peak drinking – dark, intense and massively complex, you could just soak up the aromas and never drink it (although that would be an awful shame).
Enjoy alone or with cured meats, salted almonds and hard cheese.
The Leite family settled in Poiares Seara, in Portugal's now renowned Douro wine and Port region, in the late 18th century, immediately planting vineyards, olive groves and almond trees, some of which survive to this day. Quinta Seara d'Ordens was derived from the military commander son, who based himself at the estate (quinta) and gave orders (ordens) to the soldiers under his command.
Over two hundred years later the estate remains in the Leite family, with João Leite Moreira the latest custodian overseeing production of high quality DOC Douro wines and continuing a long tradition of producing outstanding Ports.
