Quinta de Aves’ Coupage is an estate blend of Tempranillo, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Graciano, the four red grapes grown on this 500 hectare reserve that serves as a stopping point for migratory birds.
Grapes are harvested at night to preserve freshness, vinified separately, then aged separately for 9 months in French and American oak barrels. The final ‘coupage’ is assembled to reflect the balance of the estate, expressing the qualities of each varietal, with elegance and the signature minerality of Campo de Calatrava.
Fairly full in colour and body, the nose is an intense fusion of ripe fruit fruits and new oak, blackberry and raspberry intermingling with vanilla, pepper and other spicy notes. The fruit leaps to the fore on the palate as well, juicy red berries backed up by ripe tannins, savoury leather and wood notes, and flecks of nutmeg and clove.
Serve with smoked meats, charcuterie and mature cheeses.
