A blend of 5 vineyards through North Canterbury – the Three Sisters, Shed Block, Porter’s and Frank’s Block vineyards in Waipara, and the Damsteep Vineyard in the north east of Waipara Valley – with vines planted between 1999 and 2008.
Grapes are hand-picked and fermented with natural vineyard yeasts in open top fermenters with 30% whole bunch, then aged in French barrels, 20% new, for 11 months before settling in stainless steel on light less for a further 4 months. Bottled unfined and unfiltered.Rich
Bright appearance with a ruby red hue, showing a lifted floral nose with raspberry and cherry aromas, with an abundance of savoury/earthy complexity. The palate is vibrant with terrific tension and length, showing a nice mixture of bright fruit/herbal elements and a savoury structure that North Canterbury is renowned for.
Enticing and layered aromatics of Pinot Noir centering on aromas of cherry and preserved apple, baking spices and old roses, a earthy contextual earthy core enhanced with oak. Tense, poised, youthful, complex and dry on the palate. Flavours of red berries and rose, oak spices and earthy qualities, a natural synergy. Fine to firm tannins and medium+ acidity. Youthful yet balanced, lengthy and complex. Drinking well now and through 2023+. 95 points.
