Selected from some of Pinoso’s best vineyards, these Monastrell grapes are dry grown — no irrigation at all in one of the hottest parts of Spain — fully organic and from vines in excess of 50 years old. Grapes are left to optimal ripeness before picked and fermented in two stages — first at a lower temperature to preserve the fresh fruit flavours, and then at a higher temperature to maximise intensity of colour and tannins.
There’s so much richness here it’s hard to believe this is unoaked. The texture is full and rich, soft and balanced, complex, long and smooth, bursting with ripe plums and cherries with a spicy vanilla backdrop and savoury afternotes of soy, dark chocolate and coffee beans. For the price it’s just wow and it was our wine of the year for 2019.
