This Tinta de Toro is taken from the older vineyards (30-50 years old) of the small ViñaGuareña estate on the banks of the Guareña river, a tributary of the famous Douro river, in Toro. Fermented in stainless steel with extended skin maturation, the wine is matured exclusively in fine grained French oak casks for 16 months.
Deep cherry red in colour, it is a rich and powerful wine, intense dark fruit notes combining with beeswax, pencil shavings, garrigue, oriental spices and balsamic on the nose. The palate is full and ripe, with blackberries and sour cherries to the fore, dried dates, coffee and chocolate on the silky, savoury mid-palate, and ripe cherries and vanilla notes on a long, clean finish.
Enjoy with braised or roasted red meats, mushroom and rich pasta dishes or hard cheeses.
