This single vineyard Merlot, from the esteemed Gimblett Gravels region of Hawke’s Bay on New Zealand’s north island, was picked at a relaxed pace in several parcels thanks to excellent sunny weather over the 2018 harvest, enabling unpressured picking decisions based solely on when each parcel had reached optimum ripeness and condition.
After cold-soak fermentation, the wine was aged in 12 months in French oak hogsheads, 25% new, and bottled after natural clarification and without filtration.
Quite full-bodied with wonderfully subtle and layered aromatics, the palate is loaded with plum and boysenberry flavours complexed with dark chocolate and spicy oak notes. Velvety textured and layered, this appetising wine is ready for immediate enjoyment, or to reward judicious cellaring.
