Mi-Nuit Chardonnay 2023

Every year, the Dom Brial winegrowers organize the ‘mid-night harvest’, their aim to manually harvest all the Chardonnay during first half of the night so that the grapes keep their full freshness ahead of vinification. Several dozen volunteers equipped with headlamps take part in this event which ends with the traditional winegrowers’ lunch called l’esmorza in Catalan, by which time the grapes are already sorted, crushed and in temperature-controlled tanks starting to ferment.

All this freshness is expressed through a beautiful aromatic complexity, with exotic fruits and pear enhanced with citrus fruits, white flowers and a gorgeous hint of hazelnut. Ripe, rich and round on the palate, there’s texture and concentration, deliciously subtle complexity once the wine warms up a bit from the fridge, and balanced by a beautiful freshness.

A convivial wine par excellence, this goes wonderfully with fish in sauce or recipes based on fresh goat’s cheese.

Producer: Dom Brial

Set in one of the most beautiful regions of France, Dom Brial was established in 1923 in the town of Baixas, between the Mediterranean and the Pyrenees near Perpignan. The vineyards are Mediterranean in climate, protected by the cool mountain ranges on one side and the fresh ocean breezes on the other. Between the sea, the mountains and the vineyards, there is beauty all around here.

The winery was established by a handful of winegrowers coming together in the face of a major viticultural crisis at the time, expanding quickly through their solidarity and financial stability. Today the cooperative represents almost 250 growers cultivating over 2,000 hectares of vineyards in the Côtes du Roussillon.

The patchwork of terroirs, and scope for planting varietals most suited to the local microclimate, allows for the production of a range of wine styles, from high quality table wines, to super cuvées, to the natural sweet wines of Rivesaltes.
