Description

The wine to honour the founder of this fourth generation family producer, Lisbon’s Mustache is a four way equal blend of Port-grape Touriga Nacional, Tinta Barroca, Sousão and Jaen, all dry grown in the Garrocha family vineyards just outside Lisbon.

Steel fermented then divided between concrete tanks and oak barriques for maturation, the final blending balances out primary fruit characters with oak and spice. Robust and dark in colour, decanting is recommended to bring out the best of the complex aromas, blackberries, plum and dates intermingling with gamey, earthy notes and hints of tobacco and dark chocolate. The palate is quite full, dark fruits to the fore with a smooth mid-palate, tingling with peppery spice and vanilla on the finish.

At it’s best with a hearty casserole, barbecued meats or roast lamb.

Producer: Garrocha Family Vineyards

Garrocha family vineyards and winery were established in 1945 by Francisco Caetano Macieira, the man behind the famous moustache that adorns one of the winery's signature wines today. Current owner and winemaker is also Francisco Maciera, the founder's great grandson and the fourth generation to produce wines from the three family estates just outside Lisbon. All grapes come from the family's vineyards with Portuguese varietals such as Touriga Nacional, Sousão and Maria Gomes planted alongside international varietals like Cabernet Sauvignon, Tempranillo (Tinta Roriz) and Sauvignon Blanc.
