Description

Scintillating lightly oaked Chardonnay from the original K1 vineyard in Adelaide Hills’ Kuipto sub-region.

K1 Chardonnay is styled to accentuate the characters of Kuitpo’s cool growing conditions and terroir. The fruit is gently handled to ensure aromatics are retained, with French oak and malolactic fermentation used to enhance the wine’s purity of fruit character.

Light gold in colour, the nose offers a beautifully complex combination of citrus, green apples and toasty, buttery aromas including butterscotch and honeysuckle. The palate is rich and buttery, with smooth lush notes of baked apples, mango and pineapple, and lingering hints of lemon peel and green apple on the finish.

Made for chicken dishes, chasseur or lemon roast with loads of fresh herbs.

Producer: Wines by Geoff Hardy

Part of the Hardy wine dynasty in Australia, Geoff Hardy broke free of the family business to purchase his first vineyard in McLaren Vale in 1980. A few years later, Geoff found the perfect location for producing cool climate grapes in the Kuitpo region of the Adelaide Hills. He planted the first vineyard there in 1987 and named it K1 since this unique site was the first commercial planting of vines in Kuitpo. Since then Geoff has been involved in the planting of more than 3,000 hectares of vines and has consulted to more than 200 different vineyards in Australia, France and Italy.

In 2004, Geoff launched the Hand Crafted by Geoff Hardy and GMH ranges of wine. Together with K1 Wines, these brands now make up Wines by Geoff Hardy and continue the 160-year old family tradition of pushing the boundaries of Australian viticulture. Winestate Magazine, Australia's leading wine industry publication, named Wines By Geoff Hardy Australian Wine Company of the Year in both 2012 and 2014, and senior winemaker Shane Harris Australian Winemaker of the Year in 2012, 2018 and 2020, the only triple winner of this coveted award.
