K1 Cabernet Sauvignon 2018

€30.00
Description
Cool-climate Cabernet part-aged in French oak, from Geoff Hardy’s K1 vineyard in Kuitpo, Adelaide Hills.
Open canopies and low yields at the Kuitpo vineyard ensure that these Cabernet Sauvignon grapes are matured to optimum ripeness. Grapes are harvested and fermented, with 30% going into new French for 18 months before blending and bottling.
Medium to full bodied and dark crimson in appearance, the K1 Cab offers restrained cool climate Cabernet aromas of cassis, blackberries, mint and thyme, with well integrated oak spice and woody influences. The palate is full and ripe, bursting with blackcurrant, blackberry and mulberry fruit, silky chocolately tannins providing a long smooth mid-palate, with subtle herb and spice elements, nutmeg, clove and mint, carrying through on the long, cassis-soaked finish.
Serve with rack of lamb with lashings of garlic and fresh herbs, or simply with a good dark chocolate.

Part of the Hardy wine dynasty in Australia, Geoff Hardy broke free of the family business to purchase his first vineyard in McLaren Vale in 1980. A few years later, Geoff found the perfect location for producing cool climate grapes in the Kuitpo region of the Adelaide Hills. He planted the first vineyard there in 1987 and named it K1 since this unique site was the first commercial planting of vines in Kuitpo. Since then Geoff has been involved in the planting of more than 3,000 hectares of vines and has consulted to more than 200 different vineyards in Australia, France and Italy.
In 2004, Geoff launched the Hand Crafted by Geoff Hardy and GMH ranges of wine. Together with K1 Wines, these brands now make up Wines by Geoff Hardy and continue the 160-year old family tradition of pushing the boundaries of Australian viticulture. Winestate Magazine, Australia's leading wine industry publication, named Wines By Geoff Hardy Australian Wine Company of the Year in both 2012 and 2014, and senior winemaker Shane Harris Australian Winemaker of the Year in 2012, 2018 and 2020, the only triple winner of this coveted award.
