Isla Grande Reserva Pinot Noir 2018

14.00 11.20

A fragrant, French oak-aged Pinot from one of Chile’s most exciting new regions, Bio Bio.

Striking cherry colour with an ample, generous nose of crushed raspberry, violet and beetroot. The satiny, mercurial palate is deliciously sweet-fruited, with supple tannins, clean acidity and perky notes of blackberry, cola and cranberry.

Drink on its own or partner with with beef stir-fry or soy-glazed tuna steaks.

Bio Bio, one of Chile’s most southerly wine valleys, has come out of nowhere in the 21st century to be the country’s most exciting, most talked-about region, increasingly respected for its bright, clean renditions of cool-climate wines such as Riesling, Gewurztraminer and Pinot Noir. Sitting at 36° south (the same latitude as California’s Monterey in the northern hemisphere) its vineyards are mostly at altitudes of just 50-150m above sea level.

  • Smooth, aromatic, fruity
  • 750ml
  • 13.5% Alcohol
  • Screwcap

Producer: Santa Alicia

A past winner of 'Chilean Winery of the Year', Santa Alicia have been producing wines in the heart of Maipo Valley since 1954. Established in Pirque on the foothills of the majestic Andes, the Santa Alicia winery was founded in 1954 by Máximo Valdés, a prominent politician and businessman with great experience in the wine world, who began with planting Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay.

In 2011 the Heller Solari family felt inspired by this traditional family-run business and since acquiring it have grown the winery into one of Chile’s largest, most dynamic and diversified business holdings. Viña Santa Alicia owns 700 hectares of vineyards scattered throughout the Maipo valley (Pirque, María Pinto, Alhué and Melipilla), where it produces Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Carmenère, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc, among other varieties. It also has 250 hectares in the Biobío valley, where it grows Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir that will enter into its sparkling wines and cool-climate wines, and also approximately 50 hectares in Casablanca.

With grapes from three select communes, a state of the art winery, and judicious use of the finest American and French oak barrels, we believe the wines represent the highest price/quality ratio in Chile.
