Isla Grande Gran Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon 2017

€15.75
Description
Premium oak-aged Cabernet from vineyards in the Maipo Alto subregion of the Maipo Valley, an area renowned for producing great Cabernet in one of the oldest wine regions in Chile. Grapes are harvested by hand and the wine is aged in fine-grained French oak barrels for 12-14 months.
Deep ruby red in colour, it has good intensity and complexity on the nose, where it presents notes of blackberry, berries and ripe plum. Full, ripe and round on the palate, plum, black berries and dried fruits dominate with secondary notes of leather, cinnamon, cloves and smoked. Well balanced with silky, chalky tannins and long on the finish, this will age well in the bottle for up to 8 years from vintage.

A past winner of 'Chilean Winery of the Year', Santa Alicia have been producing wines in the heart of Maipo Valley since 1954. Established in Pirque on the foothills of the majestic Andes, the Santa Alicia winery was founded in 1954 by Máximo Valdés, a prominent politician and businessman with great experience in the wine world, who began with planting Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay.
In 2011 the Heller Solari family felt inspired by this traditional family-run business and since acquiring it have grown the winery into one of Chile’s largest, most dynamic and diversified business holdings. Viña Santa Alicia owns 700 hectares of vineyards scattered throughout the Maipo valley (Pirque, María Pinto, Alhué and Melipilla), where it produces Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Carmenère, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc, among other varieties. It also has 250 hectares in the Biobío valley, where it grows Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir that will enter into its sparkling wines and cool-climate wines, and also approximately 50 hectares in Casablanca.
With grapes from three select communes, a state of the art winery, and judicious use of the finest American and French oak barrels, we believe the wines represent the highest price/quality ratio in Chile.
