Hand Crafted by Geoff Hardy Shiraz 2018
It’s no secret that McLaren Vale is home to some of the best Shiraz in Australia, which is why Geoff and winemaker Shane go there for this hand crafted edition.
Selected at peak ripeness, grapes are carefully crushed and slowly fermented with loads of skin contact for extra colour and depth of flavour. Maturation is for 19 months in French oak hogsheads, around 15% new.
Full and intense on the nose, with masses of cherries, plums, blackberry compote, mocha and herbal characters, and a twist of fresh peppercorn on the finish. The palate is fresh and vibrant, loaded with super ripe plums and blackcurrants, intermingled with subtle vanilla bean, savoury spices and well integrated oak, finishing long and clean with some red berry tang.
Serve up with braised beef shanks in a red wine gravy.

Producer: Wines by Geoff Hardy
Part of the Hardy wine dynasty in Australia, Geoff Hardy broke free of the family business to purchase his first vineyard in McLaren Vale in 1980. A few years later, Geoff found the perfect location for producing cool climate grapes in the Kuitpo region of the Adelaide Hills. He planted the first vineyard there in 1987 and named it K1 since this unique site was the first commercial planting of vines in Kuitpo. Since then Geoff has been involved in the planting of more than 3,000 hectares of vines and has consulted to more than 200 different vineyards in Australia, France and Italy.
In 2004, Geoff launched the Hand Crafted by Geoff Hardy and GMH ranges of wine. Together with K1 Wines, these brands now make up Wines by Geoff Hardy and continue the 160-year old family tradition of pushing the boundaries of Australian viticulture. Winestate Magazine, Australia's leading wine industry publication, named Wines By Geoff Hardy Australian Wine Company of the Year in both 2012 and 2014, and senior winemaker Shane Harris Australian Winemaker of the Year in 2012, 2018 and 2020, the only triple winner of this coveted award.
