Hand Crafted by Geoff Hardy Lagrein 2018
Lagrein is a relatively curious north east Italian grape variety bizarrely well suited to Australia.
Sourced from two sites in the Adelaide Hills and Limestone Coast regions, the grapes are fermented and matured separately, with 21 months in seasoned French oak barrels prior to final assessment and blending.
Rich and dark red-purple in colour, the nose offers beautifully complex aromas of blackberries, plums, earth and leather notes with hints of wild herbs and peppery spice. Rich and opulent in the mouth, black fruits dominate the open, chocolately tannins lining the mid-palate with layers of flavour and complexity, hints of cedar, cigar box and vanilla unwinding on a lingering finish.
Made for something Italian, try with osso buco with a side of garlic and rosemary roast potatoes.

Producer: Wines by Geoff Hardy
Part of the Hardy wine dynasty in Australia, Geoff Hardy broke free of the family business to purchase his first vineyard in McLaren Vale in 1980. A few years later, Geoff found the perfect location for producing cool climate grapes in the Kuitpo region of the Adelaide Hills. He planted the first vineyard there in 1987 and named it K1 since this unique site was the first commercial planting of vines in Kuitpo. Since then Geoff has been involved in the planting of more than 3,000 hectares of vines and has consulted to more than 200 different vineyards in Australia, France and Italy.
In 2004, Geoff launched the Hand Crafted by Geoff Hardy and GMH ranges of wine. Together with K1 Wines, these brands now make up Wines by Geoff Hardy and continue the 160-year old family tradition of pushing the boundaries of Australian viticulture. Winestate Magazine, Australia's leading wine industry publication, named Wines By Geoff Hardy Australian Wine Company of the Year in both 2012 and 2014, and senior winemaker Shane Harris Australian Winemaker of the Year in 2012, 2018 and 2020, the only triple winner of this coveted award.
