Old vine (70 years+) Pinot Noir from a single plot just south of the village of Nuits-Saint-Georges.
The grapes are hand-sorted before careful fermentation over a month then aged in oak for 12 months, with final assembly over 3 months in steel. On the nose, a pronounced mix of red and black berries with notes of cherry, liquorice, coffee and new leather. The wine is beautifully structured on the palate with a firm grip and good acidic freshness, fine tannins and a long finish.
Decanting recommended over a couple of hours when young, peak drinking is 5 to 10 years from vintage once properly stored.
The Dufouleurs have been around a bit in Burgundy, with 14 generations going back to Gilles Dufouleur in 1596. Father and son Guy and Yvan, 13th and 14th generation respectively, take care of 27 hectares of vineyards over eleven appellations across the Côte de Beaune and Côte de Nuits. Vineyards have been organic since 2000.
