Wild yeast, second-fill barrel fermented Chardonnay from the organic Hope Vineyard, Nelson.
The Hope Vineyard Chardonnay is made from the intensely-flavoured, high acid Mendoza clone grown in the Winery and Road Blocks, 13 and 22 years old respectively. These have been managed organically since 2008 and are fully BioGro certified. Fruit is hand harvested and whole bunch pressed to tank where it is very briefly settled before racking to French oak barriques, predominantly second fill so the oak is present but subtle and soft. Indigenous wild yeast fermentation begins within 3-5 days and completes over a period of months, with maturation on full yeast lees for 11 months during which time malolactic fermentation is completed.
Typical of the Hope Vineyard, this wine expresses ripe citrus fruit aromas and flavours, with the malolactic softening acidity and contributing to palate richness. Citrus and fresh stone fruits modulated and enriched by creamy, spicy, nutty details from the wild fermentation in barrel and extended lees contact, there is a purity and vivacity throughout, at the same time providing palate texture and complexity.

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2014 Hope Vineyard Chardonnay offers delicate notes of white peaches, spiced apples and marzipan with hints of honeyed toast and orange blossoms. Medium-bodied with a great intensity of stone fruit and baking spice flavours, it has a lovely creamy texture and plenty of zip to the finish.
