Custoza is a white wine DOC from the Veneto region of northeastern Italy, produced from indigenous Italian grapes, most prominently Cortese (of Gavi fame but known locally as Fernanda Bianca), Friulano, Garganega and Trebbiano.
This Custoza, from the organic Gorgo family vineyards between Verona and Lake Garda, is a blend of Fernanda Bianca, Garganega and Trebbiano.
Cryomaceration and soft pressing allows this wine to develop its complexity but remain lean and fine, a masterclass in delicate winemaking. Straw-yellow in colour and floral bouquets and white fruits on the nose, harmonious and dry in mouthfeel with tastes of honeysuckle and green herbs on the palate.
Drink as an aperitif or not, this wine stands up on its own. Also works well with seafood and white meats.
