Description

A typical Bordeaux blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, grown on the Phélan Ségur estate from a mix of old and new vines and aged in barrel for 14 months. 2015, a brilliant, dry, Bordeaux year, stayed true to the region’s “rule of five,” where each vintage ending in zero or five over the past 30 years has been outstanding.

Frank Phélan is the “second wine” of Château Phélan Ségur, a Bordeaux Cru Bourgeois estate founded in the eighteenth century by Tipperary man Bernard O’Phelan. The wine is named after his son Frank, who served as mayor of Saint-Estèphe for thirty years. Ownership has long since passed back into French hands but the château remains an indelible part of the history of the Wine Geese, documenting the Irish contribution to wine-making around the world.

Producer: Château Phélan Ségur

Château Phélan Ségur is a Bordeaux Cru Bourgeois estate founded in the 18th century by Tipperary man, Bernard O' Phelan. Ownership passed back into French hands in 1985 and today this Saint - Estephe estate is run by the three Gardinier brothers, Thierry, Stephane and Laurent but the Château remains an indelible part of the history of the Wine Geese, documenting the Irish contribution to wine making around the world. Due to the terroir containing less gravel and more clay than other left bank communes, the relative damp coolness of the terroir of Saint - Estephe makes the region more suited to the cultivation of Merlot than Cabernet Sauvignon.
