‘La Femme’ is the ultimate expression of Champagne established by the two women central to the success of Duval-Leroy, owner and matriarch Carol Duval-Leroy, and Sandrine Logette-Jardin, the house’s Chef de Cave.
The 2002 Brut Nature Millésimé comes from an exceptional vintage where the grapes were able to ripen through much of September. 95% Chardonnay from Grand Cru vineyards at Avize, Le Mesnil-sur-Oger and Cramant was combined with 5% Pinot Noir from the Grand Cru of Ambonnay, 20% of the wine vinified in oak with 50% aged on the lees until bottling in 2020.
“An opulent creation combining exotic bouquets and palates of coconut, fig, marzipan, wild honey and posh custard. Well structured with an earthy minerality, appreciable length and a white peppery finish.” — International Wine & Spirits Competition.

An opulent creation combining exotic bouquets and palates of coconut, fig, marzipan, wild honey and posh custard. Well structured with an earthy minerality, appreciable length and a white peppery finish.
Light golden yellow, silver reflections, fine, persistent, small-pearl mousseux. In the bouquet initially nuances of herbs and pastries, fine nutty-tobacco aromas, mineral aspects dominate the fruit, with more air a multi-faceted yellow aroma, a hint of ripe apple, dried apricots, a hint of white flowers in the background. Complex on the palate, a hint of wood nuances, silky texture, firm body, has elegance and depth like only a champagne that has been aged on the yeast for a long time (it was 18 years old), salty and focused on the finish, has great length and expression. A great champagne that may even have to be decanted, designed for true wine lovers. 100 points and the Falstaff Champagne Trophy, 2020.
