This 100% Tempranillo, from vines ranging from 40 to 60 years in age, comes from organic vineyards on the hillside of Moncalvillo in Rioja Alta. The wine gets an initial 6 months in American oak barrels followed by a minimum 6 months maturation in bottle.
Richly coloured dark cherry red with violet reflections, this shows aromas of summer berries, tobacco leaf and woodspice. The palate is full and richly layered, sweet raspberry and blueberry fruit framed by fine tannins, with a light touch of savoury oak, spice and coffee beans, finishing with elements of soy and vanilla.
Drinks perfectly well on its own but sings with grilled meats or roasted vegetables, characuterie and hard cheeses.
