Domaine La Verde Vacqueyras Alpha Omega 2015

Out of stock

An iron fist in velvet glove, loaded with dark berries and dried fruits, cedar, coffee bean, kirsch and black tea. Improving with each glass, the potent, unctuous wash is heavy and mouthcoating, with luxurious tannins and beautiful chocolate cookie sweetness on the finish.

A tiny production only in exceptional vintages, Alpha-Omega is the combination of two classic grapes, two emblematics plots of the La Verde vineyard and two style of winemaking. Century-old Grenache vines grown on sandy soils and aged in concrete tanks are blended with 80 year old limestone-rooted Syrah aged for 16 months in new French oak.

Perfect with rich venison and beef dishes.

Producer: Domaine La Verde

Domaine de la Verde is a family-owned single clos of 32 hectares of vines in the Rhône Cru village of Vacqueyras, between Gigondas and Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Hidden away in the woods, between the finely made lace of Montmirail and the mythical slopes of Mont Ventoux, the vineyard is rooted in stony clay-limestone terraces abutting the cliffs of the river Ouvèze.

Founded in 1888, the domaine was acquired by the Camallonga family in 1963, with third generation Nicolas Camallonga taking ownership of both the estate and wine making duties in 2012. From vine to bottle this is a tightly controlled affair with only four wines produced, all AOP Vacqueyras from within the La Verde lieu-dit. Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre and Cinsault make up the bulk of the vineyards, with average vine age now in excess of 40 years.
