Domaine Gachot-Monot Côtes de Nuits Villages Les Monts de Boncourt 2017

Description

This is just gorgeous, fruit forward and minerally with a mixture of exotic fruits, citrus, sweet and savoury elements: galia melon, mango, fig, almond and caramel with a twist of grapefruit on the finish that keeps everything clean and in place. Tiny production white – there’s only 1,500 bottles produced – from the prized Les Monts de Boncourt vineyard.

Really classy stuff, that will peak at 3-5 years from vintage.

Five successive generations have been at the head of this family run estate situated in Corgoloin on the border of Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune. The recent history is highlighted by two women who contributed to the domaine’s longevity: Marguerite Monot, who ran the vineyard alone from 1950 to 1980, and her only daughter Marie Therese, who, with the help of her husband Jean Pierre Gachot, renovated, replanted and gave their name to the Domaine. Marie Therese's son Damien now runs Domaine Gachot-Monot with his Danish wife, Liselotte.

The vineyard today covers about 18 hectares mainly planted with Pinot Noir and is entirely cultivated according to a philosophy of respect for the soil and the vine, with vinification following Burgundian traditions to reveal and reflect the subtleties of the soils. The wines sell out every vintage, carefully bottled at the estate's own winery after 14 to 16 months maturing in oak barrels and released on allocation around 6 months later.
