Description

Great value blend of Port grapes Touriga Nacional and Touriga Franca from Lisbon.

This is a 60/40 split in favour of the Touriga Franca, picked from the Garrocha family farm just north of the Portuguese capital and matured for 6 months between oak barrels and steel tanks.

Medium ruby red in colour, the nose suggests sweet black plum, dried fruit and spice, with hints of tobacco leaf and forest floor. Tangy black fruit opens up the palate with a sweet burst of raspberry, a firm tannic backbone and juicy acidity providing the structure with pepper and oriental spices coming through on a clean, sappy finish.

Serve up with pasta dishes, red meats, charcuterie and hard cheeses.

Producer: Garrocha Family Vineyards

Garrocha family vineyards and winery were established in 1945 by Francisco Caetano Macieira, the man behind the famous moustache that adorns one of the winery's signature wines today. Current owner and winemaker is also Francisco Maciera, the founder's great grandson and the fourth generation to produce wines from the three family estates just outside Lisbon. All grapes come from the family's vineyards with Portuguese varietals such as Touriga Nacional, Sousão and Maria Gomes planted alongside international varietals like Cabernet Sauvignon, Tempranillo (Tinta Roriz) and Sauvignon Blanc.
