Diário da Quinta Branco 2020

14.75

Description

Something different here, a Lisbon white made from 100% Maria Gomes, or Fernão Pires as it’s known in other parts of Portugal.

This is just fantastic bang for buck, a fresh, zippy, zesty aperitif or seafood wine, clear straw-gold in colour and displaying lemon, gooseberry and elderflower on the nose. The palate weight and concentration is really impressive, lithe and minerally with heaps of lemon curd, pineapple, green apple and lime zest, with loads of length, the taste and texture coating the mouth with fresh sweet citrussy flavours.

Serve up with fresh calamari or shellfish, especially freshly shucked oysters.

Producer: Garrocha Family Vineyards

Garrocha family vineyards and winery were established in 1945 by Francisco Caetano Macieira, the man behind the famous moustache that adorns one of the winery's signature wines today. Current owner and winemaker is also Francisco Maciera, the founder's great grandson and the fourth generation to produce wines from the three family estates just outside Lisbon. All grapes come from the family's vineyards with Portuguese varietals such as Touriga Nacional, Sousão and Maria Gomes planted alongside international varietals like Cabernet Sauvignon, Tempranillo (Tinta Roriz) and Sauvignon Blanc.
