In honour of Liverpool FC’s greatest ever goalscorer, the Ian Rush Signature Shiraz is limited to just three barrels of ultra-premium, single vineyard 2013 vintage Shiraz from the award winning Penwortham vineyard in Clare Valley.
The Shiraz grapes were harvested in mid-March 2013 and cold soaked on skins for 36 hours to build brightness and flavour depth. These “hand grenades of acid, sugar and amazing flavour profiles”, according to winemaker Marnie Roberts, were then fermented on skins for 25 days (over the usual 10 days), pressed and then matured in three French oak barrels for 36 months. The result is a dark, brooding, rich and full-bodied red with hedonistic aromas of cassis, black olive and dark roast coffee bean, the palate thick and concentrated with immaculate smoothness and balance, and massively long on the finish.
“The 1000 individually numbered bottles will be a very special investment for wine and sport lovers alike”, says Marnie. “It showcases the best of what Clare Valley can offer whilst honouring select individuals who have influenced or inspired our brand over the past 20 years.”
