Château Piche-Leibre Margaux 2013

40.00

Description

Tiny production 100% Cabernet from Bordeaux blue chip, Margaux.

Château Piche-Leibre is a petit château, next to renowned Châteaux Cantenac-Brown and Palmer in Margaux, with a single 0.5 hectare vineyard of Cabernet Sauvignon planted in the early 1990s. Grapes are hand-harvested, maturation is 16 months in French oak barrels, 50% of which are new. Typically only around 3,000 bottles are produced each vintage.

This is heavyweight Bordeaux, a booming, oaky, fruit-driven Cabernet, that just oozes the complexity of its prestigious terroir. Deep, dark brick red in colour, thick aromas of blackcurrant, coffee, cedar, tobacco and mint waft invitingly from the glass. The palate is rich and concentrated, an initial burst of sweet cassis quickly covered in thick, chocolately tannins and savoury mid-palate displaying oak spice, coffee bean and cigar box, finishing with tangy plum skins, vanilla and black pepper. It’s just a stunning Cab, and a rare single varietal example from top-tier Bordeaux.

Don’t mess about: serve this up with Chateaubriand and all the trimmings.
