Located in Macau en Medoc not far from Margaux, Château Maucamps dates back to the 19th century and is surrounded by over 20 hectares of Cabernet Sauvignon (around 60%), Merlot and Petit Verdot vines. The Tessandier family have owned the estate since 1954 and sustainable viticulture combined with investment in modern winemaking facilities ensures a continued legacy of great wines here.
Harvesting is all done manually and vinification is quite traditional, temperature controlled to retain freshness and a focus on finesse of tannins and structure. The wines get 16 months maturation in oak barrels, new oak kept to a minimum to ensure the fruit is the star at all stages of the wines’ evolution — these are wines that will age for 20 years or more while also being enjoyable in their youth.
Dark brick red in colour, this is full bodied and fantastically expressive on the nose, cooked plum and dried fruits infused with cedar, leather, pencil shavings and mint. The palate is remarkably ripe and fruit forward, chewy berry fruits framed by meaty tannins, the mid palate is just packed with raisiny fruit, earthy notes and oriental spices, with hints of coffee bean and vanilla on the finish.
Pairs brilliantly with red meats or mature cheeses.
