Château Laulerie Reserve Bergerac 2019

19.00

Description

Château Laulerie’s Reserve Red is specially made from a selection of low yielding old vines in the 46-ha vineyard belonging to Bergerac wine family, Dubard.

After de-stemming and crushing, the blend of 70% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc and 15% Malbec undergoes a 4-week maceration and spend 6 months in new French oak barrels followed by a further 6 months in 50 hl oak tanks. The resulting wine is very expressive with spicy aromas and silky yet firm tannins, brimming over with dark red fruit and mixed spice aromas.

This flavoursome wine works well with meats such as duck and venison and will potentially develop even richer, spicier nuances over the next 10 years with correct cellaring.

Producer: Vignobles Dubard

Vignobles Dubard is the second generation family operation of Gregory Dubard, located in Bergerac, just east of Bordeaux and the Durdogne river. The homestead, Château Laulerie, is a 19th century stone farm surrounded by the original livestock buildings. The estate comprises 85 hectares of vines with Merlot, Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Franc and Malbec dominating plantings. Soil-type here is almost identical to that of neighbouring Saint-Émilion but land, and subsequently wine here, is much more favourably priced.
Gregory first gained experience in St Chinian and Chateauneuf-du-Pape, traveling further afield to gain experience in Italy and New Zealand, and finally closer to home in Pomerol. He arrived back at Château Laulerie in 2009 determined to tell a story about the Bergerac terroir through fabulous wines with contemporary branding.

Reviews

  • Guide Hachette 2018

2 stars for Château Laulerie 2015 "The partial oak ageing provides this wine with a real complexity, adding to black fruits aromas (blackberries, gooseberries) a subtle oakiness with hints of hazelnut & cocoa. The ample & silky palate reveals notes of blackberry
marmalade & cocoa again, that linger and combine with warm hints of soft spices.”
