Château Laulerie Bergerac Malbec 2022

19.00

Description

This “Malbec cuvée” was created by Bergerac wine family Dubard in order to pay tribute to the iconic South West France variety which is often used in blends in the region.

Deeply and vibrantly purple coloured, the nose favours aromas of blackcurrant and spices and the palate reveals notes of violet, menthol and pepper underlined by tannins both firm and silky.

A relatively early drinking wine, this is great with or without food but would be a fabulous match for a mixed grill and spicy sausage.

Vignobles Dubard is the second generation family operation of Gregory Dubard, located in Bergerac, just east of Bordeaux and the Durdogne river. The homestead, Château Laulerie, is a 19th century stone farm surrounded by the original livestock buildings. The estate comprises 85 hectares of vines with Merlot, Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Franc and Malbec dominating plantings. Soil-type here is almost identical to that of neighbouring Saint-Émilion but land, and subsequently wine here, is much more favourably priced.
Gregory first gained experience in St Chinian and Chateauneuf-du-Pape, traveling further afield to gain experience in Italy and New Zealand, and finally closer to home in Pomerol. He arrived back at Château Laulerie in 2009 determined to tell a story about the Bergerac terroir through fabulous wines with contemporary branding.
