Owner Cédric Colemyn produces this classic Médoc from 20 hectares of estate vines, predominantly Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon with a shot of Cabernet Franc making up the blend. This historic cuvée of the château has been made the same way for over a century, with maturation in vats for 18 months prior to bottling.
This is at peak drinking now (2021-2023) we reckon, but good for a couple of years after that even. It’s not crystal clear, a healthy sediment showing minimal filtration (just decant carefully), and a lovely dark tile red in appearance. The nose is gorgeously rich and savoury, plum pudding and mulberry with earthy, leather and dried meat notes, the palate rich, soft and smooth, beautifully integrated fruit and spice with silky, chocolately tannins and a nice freshness on the finish.
