Diane and Eugénie, granddaughters of wine matriarch Marie-José Degas, learned their craft at family winery Château Degas between upper Bordeaux and Graves de Vayres where they grow a hundred hectares. With Château La Commanderie de Gombeau, taken over and managed by Diane, they have created a fresh, modern expression of Bordeaux varietals Merlot (80%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (20%) on 40 hectares from vines of around 45 years in age.
Raspberry, cherries and cool blackcurrant combine with earthy, soft tannins and secondary flavours of warm spice and figs, evening out into a balanced velvety herbaceous wine which would match flavoursome grilled meat and hearty vegetables perfectly.
