A rich, silky blend of Merlot (84%) and Malbec from Marmandais, on the famous Garonne river just south-east of Bordeaux.
This is unoaked, just six months maturation in steel before bottling, so a wonderful example of purity of terroir. Deep ruby red in colour, the nose is fresh and energetic, bright cherry notes mixing it up with mulberry, blackcurrant leaf and vanilla. The palate is seriously impressive, rich, silky and layered with contrasting fruit and savoury notes, chocolate powder tannins providing weight, length and smoothness. Just lovely.
The original Château La Bastide was built during the Hundred Years’ War, in 1472, located on one of the highest points of the village of Cocumont. The current stately home, rebuilt after a fire in 1721, is today owned by the Lafitte family, who manage 6 vineyards around the château.
