Description

The 8.34 hectare Bel-Air vineyard, owned by the Dubard family of Bergerac, is located in Puisseguin Saint Émilion where the soils can be distinguished by their high limestone content. The ‘satellite’ areas of Lussac and Puisseguin produce wines that are virtually impossible to tell apart from Saint Émilion proper and so often provide exceptional value for money.

The label, which was designed by the Dubard family, refers to the Sacred Heart’s medallion, present on the church of the village, to which was added Puisseguin’s motto in latin “Surgam et Ibo” (which in English means “I will stand up and go”).

With 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet franc from vines of an average age of 26 years old, this is a charming wine full of ripe blueberry and plum fruit supported by toasty oak. The palate is ample, with firm tannins giving great structure.

Vignobles Dubard is the second generation family operation of Gregory and Marine Dubard, located in Bergerac, just east of Bordeaux and the Durdogne river. The homestead, Château Laulerie, is a 19th century stone farm surrounded by the original livestock buildings. The estate comprises 85 hectares of vines with Merlot, Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Franc and Malbec dominating plantings. Soil-type here is almost identical to that of neighbouring Saint-Émilion but land, and subsequently wine here, is much more favourably priced.
Both graduated winemakers, Gregory and Marine first gained experience in St Chinian and Chateauneuf-du-Pape, traveling further afield to gain experience in Italy and New Zealand, and finally closer to home in Pomerol. They arrived back at Château Laulerie in 2009 determined to tell a story about their Bergerac terroir through fabulous wines with contemporary branding. We think they've done a rather splendid job so far.
