Castro is named after the mountain stream that runs through this small family estate in Tuscany. The Pancaro family describe this as a ‘baby Super Tuscan’, traditional in its supertuscan blend but aged for only six months in used barrels so remaining fresh and easy to drink.
The component parts of 75% Merlot, 20% Sangiovese and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon were planted together in 2003 in the 3 acre Peschiera vineyard. After fermentation, the wine is aged for six months in large traditional Tuscan chestnut barrels.
Ruby towards brick red in colour, with striking aromatics invoking coffee and dark chocolate, cassis and black cherries. The palate is silky smooth, a burst of sweet red fruits balanced by earthy, savoury notes, fragrant herbal characters and peppery hints.
Serve with any tomato-based pasta dishes, antipasti or hard cheeses.
