Within the Cantamessa family vineyards, this Nebbiolo is taken from a fully organic 25 year old vineyard in the historic Monferrato sub-region of Piemonte. Grapes are harvested and macerated for around fifteen days, the emphasis on extracting fruit with good tannic structure from the skins. The wine is then aged in a combination of used French and Slovenian oak barrels for up to six months, enough to soften out the tannins but keeping the fruit and elegance of the wine.
Typically light in colour but big in flavour, this is garnet in colour with pale brick red around the edges. The nose is an intoxicating mix of dark fruit and earthy, savoury notes, cherries and raspberries with hints of prune, nutmeg and game. The palate is full and rounded, full of rich black fruit but kept fresh and light with silky tannins and graceful acidity.
Pair up with grilled meats, stews and roasts, or just a fine block of mature hard cheese.
